Fun Team Building Activities

Fun Team Building Activities

A team that plays together stays together. This is definitely true in the context of team building. That is the reason why corporate teams as well as our sports teams are on the lookout for fun team building activities all the time. These fun team building activities may not work for team building at all, but because they create a common experience of excitement and fun between the participants, they work to that effect in an indirect manner.

You might agree that the best teams you ever had were the sports teams in school. Those guys that you played baseball or football with became friends for life. Did you do anything special to bond with them? No! You merely played with them. That was the common experience. Humans love being with people who have had common experiences with them. This is mostly the reason why the concept of family works. The idea of bringing a team closer through some fun activities is hence not baseless. It is one of the best ideas that can build teams for life.

So what are these fun activities meant to be? Actually speaking, these activities are not special in themselves; it is only the fact that people of likeminded interests come together and perform them together that they become special. These activities could be something as simple as kid games like the ones everyone played at their birthday parties when they were eight years old. Games like pinning the tail on the donkey, passing the parcel, musical chairs, blind man's buff and all, replete with the corny punishments, are considered to be fun team building activities. You will be surprised to know that some corporate offices around the world are employing these excersizes as a means to bring their teams closer and enhance the team spirit via bonding between the members.

Sports events are perennial favorites as team building activities. Most workplaces have an annual sports day. This is not at all to make the employees fit, because as it is that cannot be accomplished in one day. This is also not to give their employees a chance to win some prizes. The main reason for these sports days is to bring the teams closer. If there are competitions between different departments of the organization, people of the same department will root for each other. They will also practice together as a team. All this definitely goes a long way in creating a great bond of mutual trust and friendship, and also pride, between the teams.

Sometimes there are less competitive events held but for the same effect. Calling employees together for a common lunch is a team building exercise. You will have noticed how people come closer and chat during these times. Also, there is a lot of backslapping and chest-thumping going on at such events, not to mention the ego-boosting speeches given. Each and every shred of such activities is a team building exercise.

The thing that needs to be learnt is that team building need not be a thoroughly planned effort. Something done spontaneously and something that just goes with the flow can also be counted as interesting fun team building activities.
