Team Building Activities For Kids
Planning team building activities for kids is never an easy task; you can ask any schoolteacher that! In fact, it is easier to plan team building activities for adults than for the kids for the main reason that adults recognize the value of sharing and joint efforts much more than young people do. In a workplace, for example, the team members will know why they are grouping together and what they can do to build their collaboration, but among children this could be a problem.
Here are some problems that you will face when you are planning team building activities for kids and what you can do to overcome them.
1. First and foremost, you have to make the children and pre teens understand why you are teaming them. Is it because of some onetime venture that you need to be done, such as decorating a school hall for a function, or is it for something more lasting, such as conducting science projects jointly for the academic year? Make them know why they can bring in more creativity and productivity when they work together. One way to begin is to call up each child out in front and make them introduce themselves to everyone else. Then, you can play a name memorizing game. How about a bingo game with the names of the kids in the cards instead of the numbers? As each name is called out, the kid can actually stand up. This is a fun activity that helps the kids to become acquainted with each other.
2. Remember that kids and also teenagers can have more prejudices than adults can have. Children feel natural affinity towards a person and natural dislike towards another. You have to make sure that this does not happen. Hence, you should always plan fun group activities pairing the kids with a different person each time. Let them do things on their own. This is great for the teambuilding. 3. Children make close companions with people whom they play with. Hence, you must make sure you include a lot of fun and games in every session. Even a simple game will do for everyday purposes, and once a week you can plan a bigger game such as Blind Man's Buff, Musical Chairs, etc. Children like these games and they will begin looking forward to these sessions so that they can play with their new friends. 4. Do not underestimate the power of team building outings when it comes to the kids. Plan out an outing occasionally. It could be to a nearby place if you want; the point is to make these kids have some common experiences together. When kids see new things with someone, they form a bond with that person. An outing to a different place helps to serve that purpose. It is difficult to get kids together just like that. You might meet with failure if you only give them speeches about how they need to come together and work. However, if you plan some interesting team building activities for kids, there are many more chances that they will collaborate and associate with each other and this is what will make your tasks easier with them.
